The Relationship between "Attachment" and Selecting Partners.

This topic comes dear to my heart as it was one of the first and best theories I️ ever learned in my academic career of becoming a Psychologist. Now most people have heard of “Freud” and his favorite topic of how we get "stuck" in childhood. However, in this blog and monthly series, I will give you insight of linking his original theory of "Attachment" to how we select mates in relationships

I️ have been able to implement Attachment theory with each client that I️ work with to help them understand how they evolved into the person they are today, especially as it pertains to their personality traits and patterns in relationships.

To get this series started, I️ first want to introduce you to a 8 questions to think about:

1. Describe your relationship with your parents and/or caregivers while growing up.

2. Define the role of a mother (not based on your experience, but instead what this title is suppose to represent).

3. Define the role of a father (same example as above).

4. Describe how your relationship with your mother mirrors or is different than your definition.

5. Describe how your relationship with your father mirrors or is different than your definition.

6. What are some things that you wished your mother would have taught you or implemented while growing up?

7. What are some things that you wished your father would have taught you or implemented while growing up?

8. Did you observe a healthy or unhealthy relationship while growing up with your parents/caregivers (e.g successful marriage, communication, trustworthy)?

Now that the basic questions are out of the way, ask yourself: "Is the person that I️ am In relationships today a reflection of what I️ have observed as a child with my parents/caregivers?"

**What are the similarities and differences.

No worries. November’s Series will include similar activities each week to ponder and take action on. As you can see from the questions, it is evident that often what we observe in our environment plays a huge role In who we become and it can effect who we attract in the future.
